Purpose
  • The purpose of this video is to cover the Why, What & How of Coaching with me, as well as defining the Benefits you can expect from undertaking this adventure! It also gives everyone an opportunity to get a feel for my style & personality so you can decide whether or not I’m the right coach for you.

Why (I Coach)

  • I believe every person carried unlocked potential. Beyond what we see on the surface, people are guided by deeper goals, values, and mindsets; when these are explored, real growth becomes possible. My ambition is to facilitate alignment between peoples’ conscious and subconscious thoughts, feelings, and intentions, empowering them to make awareness-led decisions and lead more fulfilling lives both personally and professionally.
  • Right, so what the hell does that mean?
    • All humans struggle from time to time. We get stuck in ‘in our ways’ and habits, or feel bound by obligations and social expectations; we self-sabotage, undermine our own goals, health & wellbeing.
  • After 6 years of coaching leaders at all levels (and we’re all leaders since we lead our own lives!), I find that supporting someone’s growth, seeing them lead more fulfilling lives, achieve in their personal and career goals, unleashing their true potential, is my ultimate reward. I love that coaching sessions provide the right environment and ask the right questions so people can do this for themselves! Giving them a sense of both control & empowerment.

What (Is Coaching & What are the Benefits):

1.       What Is & Is NOT Coaching

    • The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the primary entity that certifies and credentials the coaching community all over the World, and where I received my credential, and they define coaching as: "Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."
    • In layman’s terms, I’d personally describe it as ‘An adventure in self-exploration & discovery, equal parts fun and challenging.’
    • It’s just as important to clarify what coaching IS NOT: Any form of advice, mentoring, therapy, counselling, or a miracle cure for life issues.

2.       What Are The Benefits? Let’s highlight what’s in it for you!

    • Now let’s highlight what’s in it for you! The Top 5 Benefits & Improvements reported from clients I’ve had over the past 1-3 years are;
      • Self Awareness
      • Self Esteem / Worth
      • Leadership / Performance at Work
      • Fulfilling Relationships
      • Emotional Intelligence & Resilience
    • Have a look at my graphs and current clients’ quotes, if you’re interested in knowing more.
    • These are general benefits, but you can set any goals you choose, and it’ll become my job to ensure you stay on track to reach them. Goals can be long term or short term, you’ll always have complete control of our coaching arrangements.
    • I will also provide session notes that you can reflect on while working towards your goal(s). The notes also help us see your progress over time.

[Part 3]
How (I Coach)

For Transparency, I’ll Describe The 3 Main Components to HOW I Coach

  1. Firstly, it’s through providing a safe space for self-exploration, discovery & reflection. To help you understand what that looks like in practice, I’ll use an analogy.
    • Imagine that your mind is a huge mansion with hundreds of rooms, but you’re really only used to using a couple of those rooms. Some areas of this vast mansion are completely untouched and could be filled with all sorts of useful and beautiful things waiting to be discovered. Other rooms are ones that you may have intentionally or unintentionally closed off because you were afraid of what they held or didn’t find them useful at that time. I partner with clients to explore their own minds, their mansions, by asking them to choose which rooms to explore and by making rooms that feel uncomfortable safe to explore. Uncovering and practicing different thoughts patterns & mindsets can then give rise to different emotions and behaviours, allowing people to shift habits and achieve some of the other benefits I’ve already described along the way.
    • Importantly, I’ll remind everyone that COACHING IS NOT THERAPY. So, if something in your mansion needs significant fixing, I’m not the support you need for that, but we can certainly make minor upgrades and tweaks. This also means that if I sense there is something buried deep that’s preventing you from safe self-exploration I will ask your permission to be honest about my concerns and refer you to resources that can help.
  2. Speaking of permission, though #1 is creating space for self-discovery, coming in at a very close second is Challenging with Permission.
    • I have gained a bit of a reputation as a velvet sledgehammer, and it’s because I truly believe that all humans possess massive amounts of potential that goes untapped. To realise this potential & promote personal growth, most people need a bit of a nudge. As a coach, I’m that nudge in the form of someone who will be honest and direct, but fair, when I see or hear my clients getting in their own way.
    • To remain ethical, I will always seek permission to challenge your thinking because my clients understand that this process isn’t always comfortable! Think of me as a personal trainer for your mind, together we will challenge your thoughts, ideas & mindsets to build your inner strength and achieve better control over how those thoughts become actions or behaviours.
    • The final aspect of this ‘Challenge’ component is HOMEWORK. Between each session you will choose an intention &/or actions to promote focus and reflection on the key insights you generate, enabling you to practice new thinking patterns. Again, like body building, practicing new ways of thinking and experiencing life is what will facilitate your growth.
  3. The third and final aspect of HOW I coach involves a tiny bit of teaching.
    • I was trained to use a Neuroscience-based approach, which means I understand how the brain processes threats, rewards, and decision-making biases. My ‘teaching’ component is used to help you understand how the brain works in general, and why day-to-day struggles are not specific to any one person! I find this information allows people to reframe things in the context of their brain’s natural wiring. The brain does not always set us up for success, and this information gives us permission to cut ourselves some slack!
    • Since teaching is not coaching however, I stick to the following structure for our sessions to maximise both learning opportunities and coaching outcomes:
      • 45 Mins Coaching
      • 5-10 Mins Teaching
      • 5-10 Mins Reflecting on Wins & Opportunities
(Note at no point will I ever give ‘advice,’ though I raise any relevant points based on our coaching conversation, and may provide resources as appropriate)
